The flight of the butterfly. The design vision is that of an armchair that gracefully “welcomes” the grace of the movement of a butterfly which in Latin is called Papilio. Grande Papilio is designed with fluidity inside an inverted truncated cone and highlights, in the amplitude and generosity of the upper section of the backrest, in the welcoming and sinuous shape of the seat, the desire to offer maximum comfort to those who sit on it. A product with a strong iconicity, even if aesthetics were not the designer’s design priority. Fukasawa, who places interest in people’s behavior before the interest in shapes, says: “I wanted the seat to appear comfortable in a natural way, to have the same shape that relaxation could have if it were represented by an image”. Precisely the wings that extend to the sides of the armchair that emphasize the feeling of comfort: in the chair and in the armchair they act as support for the hips and back; in the Grande Papilio armchair and in the Love Papilio sofa they envelop the head area offering isolation and tranquility. The same spirit of simplicity, immediacy and comfort have guided the functional development of all the products of the Papilio series: the Grande Papilio and Piccola Papilio armchairs, the Papilio and Mini Papilio chairs, the Love Papilio sofa and the Papilio bed.
